General Cleaning VS Specialised Cleaning – What’s The Difference & Which Do I Need?

To many, cleaning is just cleaning. There doesn’t seem to be any need to differentiate between general cleaning and specialised cleaning. But, if you’re engaging a third party to do your cleaning for you, there are some key differences. It’s best to be clear about your needs and expectations to minimise miscommunications or disappointment.

In this post, we dive into some of the similarities and differences between the two and give you some tips on how to determine which type of cleaning you need.

General cleaning vs Specialised cleaning

Similarities

  1. You are getting your house cleaned by a team of trained and experienced individuals.

For all our home services, including general cleaning and specialised cleaning, our providers have gone through rigorous interview processes and background checks to ensure their quality.

The majority of them are also experienced whether in domestic cleaning or office cleaning. They undergo a series of training sessions when they first join. Plus, we constantly monitor their service quality through feedback and ratings.

If we notice any deterioration in quality, we’ll arrange for a re-training session.

  1. Dedicated team of account managers

We have a dedicated team of account managers who are available daily (excluding Public Holidays) to answer any questions you might have about our services.

When you book any of our services, you can relay your requests and feedback to your account managers and they will be able to assist.

  1. Post-clean payment system

Even though you do have to fill in your payment details at the point of booking, your card is not charged until after the cleaning session is over. This ensures you won’t end up paying for a service that you didn’t receive, in the event of any rescheduling or cancellation.

If there are any disputes over the charge after the cleaning session, simply contact us for clarification. We will be more than happy to assist.

Differences

  1. Cleaning materials and equipment

When you book a general cleaning session, the cleaning materials and equipment has to be provided by you. This is because we believe that you would know which products and equipment are the most suitable for the surfaces in your home.

That being said, our experienced helpers might be able to provide some suggestions on what cleaning products you can purchase to help make cleaning easier. For example, you can use a mold spray to remove mold between bathroom floor tiles, instead of using Bleach.

On the contrary, for specialised cleaning services, all cleaning materials and equipment will be provided by the team. This is because we understand that if you’ve just renovated your home, or are in the midst of moving, you might not have everything readily available.

  1. Number of cleaners

Only 1 cleaner is sent to your home for general cleaning sessions while a team of 2-4 people are sent to your home for specialised cleaning sessions.

As general cleaning sessions are meant for simple household cleaning and maintenance, it is unlikely that you would require more than 1 person to clean. However, if you do have a special request and need more than 1 cleaner, you can make 2 bookings or contact us to arrange.

Specialised cleaning services are much more intensive and detailed, hence requiring a team of cleaners. Depending on the size of your home (and prevailing Covid-19 restrictions), you can expect between 2-4 people to arrive.

  1. Rates

For general cleaning services, we go by hourly rates. This means you can book the cleaner for the number of hours you need. If you need your cleaner to complete more tasks, you can simply book a longer duration.

On the other hand, for specialised cleaning, our rates are based on the size of your home (sqft). Specialised cleaning is less task-based, meaning the team will clean every possible area of your home.

The good thing about charging by square feet rather than by duration is that the team will not be rushing off once the time is up. Before leaving, the team will get you to check through the property and sign off on a checklist. If there are parts that you need the team to touch up on, you can inform them at that point, before they leave.

Which service do I need?

general cleaning vs specialised cleaning - choosing between 2

Deciding between general cleaning and specialised cleaning isn’t as tough as choosing between cake or salad when you’re on a diet. If you’re not sure of which service you need, ask yourself a few questions.

First, do you need this service as a deep clean post-renovation or to prepare your property for move-in or handover? If yes, opt for a specialised cleaning session. Our specialised cleaning team is more experienced in deep cleaning and more familiar with the areas to take note of.

Second, do you need us to provide the cleaning materials and equipment? If yes, you should book a specialised cleaning session. General cleaning helpers do not arrive at your home with cleaning materials and equipment.

If you’re still unsure, have a chat with us and we’ll be happy to help!
