Daikin vs Mitsubishi Aircon: Compare the Models, Not Just the Brand

Two aircon quotes can look similar until you check what each one includes. In a Daikin vs Mitsubishi aircon comparison, the exact models, room requirements and total installed price matter more than the badge on the unit.

This guide looks at Daikin’s iSmile Eco+ and Mitsubishi Electric’s Starmex R32 ranges. Mitsubishi Electric and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are different businesses, so check which one appears on your quote.

Use the comparison table and quote worksheet below to check cooling capacity, energy labels, controls and installation costs on the same basis.

What do the current ranges offer?

Comparison point Daikin iSmile Eco+ Mitsubishi Electric Starmex R32 What you should confirm
Product family iSmile Eco+ multi-split range Starmex R32 multi-split range Exact indoor and outdoor model numbers
Connected controls Eco+ wall-mounted multi-split indoor range includes built-in wireless LAN Check the control/accessory specification for the quoted model Whether required hardware, setup and app support are included
Maintenance-related features Check the exact filter and care instructions Easy Clean design and Dual Barrier Coating; check the quoted model Which features belong to the quoted unit and how routine care works
Energy label Range includes five-tick outdoor models Range includes five-tick models The actual registered model’s label, annual kWh and capacity
Sound Published indoor sound levels depend on the model and operating setting Compare sound levels for the exact model and operating setting Comparable operating points, not the lowest number alone

The table is a checklist, not a verdict on which brand is better. Confirm each feature against the model in your quote rather than assuming it comes with every unit in the range.

Start with the rooms you’re actually cooling

Tell the installer the room sizes, usage and which rooms need cooling at the same time. Don’t choose a system solely because a package is called System 3 or System 4.

In a multi-split system, the indoor and outdoor units work as a combination. Adding up the indoor units’ capacities doesn’t tell you how much cooling the outdoor unit can deliver when they all run together.

Our BTU and aircon-capacity guide explains the capacity question. The installation proposal should still address your actual rooms and system combination.

If you’re replacing a unit because cooling is weak, first consider whether assessment could resolve the existing fault. Book Helpling’s AC Diagnostic Service to find out whether repair is an option for your existing system.

Compare energy labels carefully

Ask for the energy label tied to the quoted outdoor model and registered combination. Compare equivalent cooling requirements rather than treating every five-tick system as the same appliance.

NEA’s energy-label guidance explains the label’s standard assumptions. Annual energy consumption and cost figures aren’t a personalised forecast of your electricity bill.

Your settings, usage and room conditions affect actual energy use. If a quote promises a percentage saving, ask which models and usage assumptions it compares.

What about noise and smart controls?

A lowest published sound level usually applies to a particular mode or fan speed. Compare figures at similar operating settings rather than choosing on the smallest number.

Ask for the comparable sound specification for the proposed indoor units. Also check whether the controls you want need an adapter, account, compatible network or separate charge.

Daikin’s Eco+ multi-split wall units include built-in wireless LAN. Check the model numbers in your quote, as older iSmile Eco models may have different features.

If wireless control matters to you, check it item by item in both quotes, including any adapter and setup costs. If you mainly want reliable room cooling at a suitable price, give capacity, the exact energy labels and installed totals more weight.

Make the installed quotes comparable

Quote item Daikin proposal Mitsubishi Electric proposal
Indoor model in each room Record exact models Record exact models
Outdoor model and combination Record exact model and room combination Record exact model and room combination
Cooling requirement and simultaneous use Ask how the proposal meets it Ask how the proposal meets it
Energy label and annual kWh Attach the actual label Attach the actual label
Controls and accessories List included and extra items List included and extra items
Installation scope List piping, drainage, electrical work and disposal as applicable List the same scope
Total installed price and exclusions Record quote and additional charges Record quote and additional charges
Warranty and maintenance conditions Read the actual terms Read the actual terms

Compare complete installed totals. If one price excludes work or accessories the other includes, ask for an updated quote before judging value.

Choose between the completed quotes

Ask the supplier to fill in any missing room-capacity, model-combination or installation details. You need those to judge what the quoted price actually covers.

Once both proposals meet your room requirements, compare the energy labels, features, support terms and full installed prices. If they meet the same priorities, the lower complete total may be the better fit. If a feature or support term matters more, weigh that against the extra cost.

What if the quoted prices are very different?

Check which accessories, installation items or capacity choices differ. Ask for corrected totals covering the same work, then compare again. Don’t assume the gap comes from the brand name alone.

Include ongoing care in the decision

Check how you would remove and clean the filters, and what professional maintenance the maker recommends. Choose a system whose routine care you can manage safely.

Use the aircon-cleaning guide for the filter-type decision and the servicing-frequency guide for maintenance planning.

You can also ask Helpling about aircon servicing for your exact model and unit type. Buying a system and arranging its maintenance are different service decisions.

Common questions

Will either brand last longer?

There isn’t one lifespan answer for every model. Installation, condition, usage and maintenance all affect how long your system lasts.

Arrange care for the system you keep or choose

For a current system with poor cooling or a leak, Helpling’s aircon services include assessment and maintenance options. Describe the symptom before choosing a treatment or replacing the system solely on that basis.

For the system you keep or buy, share the exact model numbers, unit type and number of indoor units when arranging servicing. Confirm the scope and quote for those units.

Book your aircon servicing appointment with Helpling for ongoing care or help assessing a fault. Discuss system purchases and installation with your chosen supplier.
